put stew beef about2 pounds one third cup of barly one half turnip savoury to taste salt to taste add water to cover bring to a boil cook one half hour add one onion chopped up four carrots quartered cook one half hour then add six potates cut in quarters cook till potates are all most cooked then add dumplings put cover on cook fourteen minutes they will be done dumpling recipe is2 cups flour4 stps baking powder one half stps salt 2tbsps shortening or er one cup of milk savoury pepper etc as desired
