Ladies, Is she interested in me? How can I tell?

We are both freshmen at college and we live in the same dorm building. We see each other 1 hour a day Monday through Thursday. At first we didn't talk to each other mostly because she seemed shy but I started getting her around less people and she would talk to me more. She seems like kind of an outcast here at college because she doesn't talk to or know any of the girls on her floor. Most of her friends are guys so we have a ton of mutual friends since I know most of those guys.I have known this girl for around 4 weeks, sometimes she seems removed and other times very candid (maybe to candid). I feel like I'm making all the effort to talk to her but she never breaks off a conversation with me or acts uninterested in what I'm saying for instance she was sitting at a table alone and I sat down and talked to her about are dorm complexes superbowl party and she laughed and talked with me about it for awhile and then got quite when one of my dorky friends sat down at the table. I make her her smile so I don't know what that means. Also what does it mean if she spends all her time with the gayest man alive, I mean this dude is super gay("not that there's anything wrong with that" Seinfeld)? I feel like I'm competing with a gay man for a woman which is a first because he is always in her room but he's openly gay amongst his friends so I'm not sure whats going on.
