Are the Chronicles of Narnia books a good read? I only read the second one.?

They are nice books, although the movie versions are superior (I normally would prefer the book over the movie, but in this case I don't). I enjoyed some parts of the stories, but I did not like how it can be ist (e.g., Susan character) - even authors like JK Rowling said the same. My favourite children's fantasy book has to be The Neverending Story by Michael Ende. That was one of the best and most meaningful novels I've encountered.
