Why is he doing this?

I arranged to meet up with a platonic friend of mine. I'm female, he's male. He never rings my doorbell, always comes me on the phone to tell me that he's arrived at my house. I asked him why he didn't ring my doorbell and he says he feels awkard. And if I pick up the phone on the first ring, he will hang up, wait ten minutes and call again and then we were going to watch t.v. at my house but when he discovered that my parents were downstairs in the kitchen cooking, he said that it was late and he had to work the next day and left. But it was only 6:00 p.m. I told everyone that I liked him but his face I never mention anything about how I feel. I guess he is worried that I've been talking about him to my parents, and they don't want them to evaluate this new "boyfriend" that I have... or he just doesn't like the idea that I've been waiting all day for him to call me. He's not attracted to me. I think he's in love with his best friend but she's way out of his league and ten years older.
